Stephen King fans should be happy to see Mike Flanagan grow up Carrie in the full series, leaving more room for character work and a gradual build-up of tension. In the limited screen time he has had to pick and choose story elements from the novel to leave out, something the show will have to make more of. Amazon also seems to be using it as an opportunity to revive the 50-year-old story, calling their version “a bold and timely take.”
From an industrial perspective, Mike Flanagan does Carrie Amazon is a big shakeup, as a product of the new writer-director deal with the company. Most of his notable TV appearances were on Netflix, providing a platform to stream some of his biggest hits. In 2022, he signed a deal with Amazon MGM Studios which could be a big win for Amazon Prime in the streaming wars.
