Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has proposed plans to start construction of flyover and widening of roads worth Rs 650 crore in Hinjewadi area to avoid traffic jam.
Laxmi Chowk is among the most congested areas in Hinjewadi, which often causes major traffic delays, especially for IT professionals visiting the area. To address this blockage, the MIDC has made a comprehensive plan starting with the construction of a 720-metre, four-lane flyover at a cost of Rs 40 crore, which will directly address the bottleneck at Laxmi Chowk.
According to the MIDC official, this action follows a meeting held at the end of December last year, which was chaired by the Minister of Industry Uday Samant. Besides the flyover, the plan includes widening of the six-lane road from Shivaji Chowk to Smashan Bhumi Chowk, covering 900 meters at a cost of around Rs 25 crore. Additionally, a new 5 km road will connect Phase I and Phase III at the IT Park, at an estimated cost of Rs 584.14 crore.
“The acquisition of land for these projects will be handled by the Public Works Department (PWD), while the MIDC will be responsible for its implementation,” the official added.
In addition to this, the proposed six-lane road connecting Baner and IT Park will also be completed. This road is 5.75 kilometers long, and 2.5 kilometers have been completed.
Shankar Salkar, a member of Hinjewadi Industrial Association (HIA), expressed satisfaction with the decision and elaborated that the road connecting Baner and IT Park, known as New Alternate Road, is under the jurisdiction of PMC and PMRDA in different parts. “The first area of ​​about 300 meters will be acquired by the PMC, and the other parts will be acquired by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The work will continue once the PMRDA gets approval for the Town Planning (TP),” he said.
As part of the security focus, the MIDC has also confirmed that 300 CCTV cameras are planned to be installed in the district, 280 of which are already operational.
