The Standing Committee of the Union Parliament Jal Sakthi (2024-25), headed by its Chairman Rajiv Pratap Rudy, reached the Polavaram project site on Saturday to review the progress of the irrigation project.
Andhra Pradesh Water Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu briefed the committee on the status of the works.
Explaining that this project is the way to help the State, Mr. Ramanaidu said that 72% of the work has been completed during the previous TDP government (2014-19). The Minister further said that the intention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was to link the rivers.
The committee will review the cofferdam, diaphragm wall, and spillway channel, and submit its findings to Parliament.
The committee members include Khiru Mahto and Dharmasheela Gupta of the Rajya Sabha, and R. Sher Singh Ghubaya, Rodmal Nagar, Jayanta Basumatary, Narayan Das Ahirwar, Sanjna Jatav, Sagar Eshwar Khandre, Vishal (Dada) Prakashbapu Patil, and Mohite-Patil. Dhairyashil Rajsingh of Lok Sabha.
