In the next Game 3, Muncy continued to dominate the field by blasting another home run, earned a single, and earned three walks. Game 4 saw Muncy go on base in his first three appearances, two against Mets starter Jose Quintana, and the last against relief pitcher Jose Butto.
Muncy’s streak surpassed the previous record of 10 consecutive plate appearances, which was jointly held by Cincinnati’s Billy Hatcher in 1990 and Boston’s David Ortiz in 2007. Remarkably, both Hatcher and Ortiz won a World Series in their respective record-setting seasons.
