Matthew Gaudreauyour wife, Madeline Gaudreauwelcomed the couple’s first child after her husband’s death in August.
“Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋,” Madeline wrote on Instagram on Sunday, December 29, welcoming the baby. “Mother and Father’s World.” Her post included a photo of Madeline holding the baby’s tiny hand, alongside a small sign that read, “He’s here.” He tagged Mathayi again in the post.
Matthew and his brother, an NHL star Johnny Gaudreauwere hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver while cycling near their hometown in New Jersey in August. Matthew was 29, Johnny was 31.
Shortly after news of the siblings’ deaths broke, an online registry confirmed that Madeline was expecting her first child with Matthew, who will be born on December 31. After the accident, a GoFundMe was launched to raise money to support Madeline and their son. Tripp.
In the days following this tragedy, Madeline shared many times about her late husband, whom she married in July 2021.
“I have no words. I just miss you. I don’t know my life without you. I have never felt such pain,” he wrote on Instagram in August. “I am blessed that you chose me to be your wife [and] to love me You are the best thing about me. “
He continued: “I know you are looking down and in pain as I am looking up. I will keep going because of you and our son. I love you so much, Matthew.”
In a subsequent Instagram Story, Madeline wrote that Matthew was “a very proud father-to-be” and “couldn’t wait to be a father,” adding, “He never missed an appointment. I can’t wait to see it live with our son.”
Madeline described her relationship with Matthew as “the best 14 years of my life” in a September Instagram post, commenting, “I can’t wait to see you again. I miss you very much.”
Later that month, Madeline became emotional while giving a eulogy at Matthew’s memorial service.
“This past week it was like I was trapped in a nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from,” she said. “I feel numb, angry, sad, blessed all at the same time. Some days, the thought of this new reality is overwhelming, but mostly I miss Matt.”
In tears, Madeline said she knew that “Matt will be around his son for the rest of his life.”
“I thank God very much for giving us a child, little Matty, to run for the rest of his life, to continue his legacy,” he shared. “Tripp will know how much his father loved him, and I promise to do all the things we talked about.”
Madeline concluded her speech by urging people not to drink and drive. “Call for a ride. Please don’t subject another family to this abuse,” she said.
Johnny’s wife, Meredith GaudreauShe was also pregnant when the accident happened. As she prepares to welcome their third child, Madeline vows to support her bride.
“We will forever share this very painful act and terrible bond,” Madeline wrote on Instagram in September. “However, boys would not choose strong women as their wives and mothers of their children. We will carry each other throughout the season as the boys do for each other. They blessed us with children. Through them we will always have their share in the world forever.”
