Marta scored on a penalty kick in the second half to break the deadlock and the Orlando Pride remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win over the visiting Washington Spirit on Sunday night and the best record in the NWSL.

The Pride (17-0-6, 57 points), playing for the first time since posting a 4-0-1 record in September, have won three straight games. They have three games left in the regular season.
The Spirit (15-6-2, 47 points) lost for the second time in their last three games. Washington entered the game as the only team in the league still in possession of the Pride, though the Spirit are in a close race with NJ/NY Gotham FC and the Kansas City Current for second place in the standings.
Washington was called for 22 fouls compared to Orlando’s six.
Marta’s eighth goal of the season came when he converted a penalty in the 56th minute by sending the ball into the bottom left corner of the post. That followed a foul in the penalty area on Washington’s Tara McKeown.
Marta has scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season, despite having a two-goal game in June.
The goal came in the 73rd minute when the ball came from McKeown. Adriana came up with a strong movement of the ball that had entered the box and released a shot, McKeown tried to block the ball instead of redirecting the ball into the net.
The first half was more or less the same, although 11 of the 14 fouls called in the first 45 minutes were called against the Spirit.
The Pride won 3-2 on the road against Washington on April 26 in their first meeting of the season.
