“A team of senior officials of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) visited other sites at Vijay Ghat, Rashtriya Smriti Sthal and nearby areas to preserve the memory of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” sources said on Thursday (January 2, 2025). ). Meetings were held between officials of the Union Home Ministry and the HUA Ministry to finalize the Manmohan Singh memorial site.
Earlier, officials of the Public Works Department (CPWD) also visited the areas surrounding the Sanjay Gandhi memorial, Rashtriya Smriti Sthal and identified other memorial sites.
“The government is in contact with the family of the former Prime Minister and has discussed three or four ways about the memorial site,” they said.
Sources said that the site has not been finalized and everything will be done in consultation with Singh’s family. The institution will establish a trust before giving the selected land to it as a memorial.
The government has expressed its willingness to build a memorial for the former Prime Minister’s family. Singh – India’s economic reformer – died on December 26 at the age of 92 following age-related complications.
