19 BJP members in Manipur have sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the removal of the Chief Minister. N Biren Singh. Those who signed the letter include the Speaker of the Association Thokchom Satyavrat Singh, Minister Thongam Vishwajit Singh and Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
The letter followed a meeting in Delhi on Tuesday, which brought together Meitei, Kuki and Naga MPs. According to sources, five MPs from the ruling party submitted a letter to the Prime Minister on Wednesday.
In the letter, the MPs expressed concern that the people of Manipur are questioning the BJP-led government’s ability to restore peace and normalcy, as well as alleviate the suffering of the citizens. They noted that members are urging their representatives to resign if a solution is not reached soon.
“We, as ardent supporters of the BJP and having gained authority from the people, feel responsible to save Manipur while protecting the BJP from the fall of the state,” the letter said. The MPs stressed that, given the ongoing conflict and conflict between the two communities, the removal of the current Chief Minister is the most effective solution.
The letter went on to say that simply deploying the security forces will not solve the existing problems. It warned that prolonged conflict would lead to irreparable damage and reflect badly on India as a nation. The Members of Parliament advocate for dialogue and meaningful collaboration to promote reconciliation and peace.
They called for attention to the important things that hinder the dialogue and urged that there be measures that create a favorable situation for the dialogue.
“In light of these facts, we request that immediate steps be taken to initiate a peace dialogue with all stakeholders to protect Manipur before it is too late,” the letter said.
