The Latest Departures of the Orlando Magic and Mac McClung

On Saturday, the Orlando Magic revealed their latest strategic move on the NBA scene. The team upgraded the status of their point guard, Mac McClung, to a two-way NBA contract, marking a milestone in his professional basketball career.

McClung’s journey to the NBA

Mac McClung, noted for his back-to-back victories in the slam dunk contest, has had an exciting journey to earn his spot on an NBA team. His professional career saw him play four games in total, with teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Philadelphia 76ers.

In the 2022-23 season, when the 76ers clinched their playoff spot, McClung got a chance to play 33 minutes in the regular season finale. In this game, he put up amazing statistics, accumulating 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists.

IG League MVP and Future Plans

In the 2023-24 season, McClung emerged as the G League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after leading the league in scoring, averaging 25.7 points per game. He earned this while playing for the Osceola Magic.

McClung, who was popular in high school because of his incredible dunks, made history by becoming the fifth NBA player to win consecutive dunk contests. His most recent victory came in February, and he has hinted that he may return in 2025 for a shot at a third straight win.

McClung’s contract with the Orlando Magic

Prior to his contract extension, McClung had signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Orlando Magic in September. This contract is a one-year, non-guaranteed contract that gives players a chance to prove themselves and earn a regular contract.
