Varela sued when he appeared Socios del Espectáculoprogram on Buenos Aires-based TV station Canal 13, CCTV footage captured Payne’s fall and the moments leading up to it.

“There are images that can be released to the media in the scene where you see that Liam faints, and the sad thing is that when he is there, he falls on the balcony. Buenos Aires emergency chief Alberto Crescenti said Payne suffered “severe” “non-life-threatening” injuries after falling from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo hotel.

“Based on what the team saw, it appeared that he suffered a broken jaw and severe injuries that led to his immediate death,” said Crescenti. “The team had done absolutely nothing. There was no resuscitation because it was confirmed that he had died.”

A partial autopsy showed that Payne had “pink cocaine” – a recreational drug usually a mixture of ketamine, MDMA and methamphetamine – in his system when he died, along with cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack.

Although an initial autopsy of Payne’s body revealed that “no injuries were observed that would suggest third-party involvement,” Varela said there is someone under investigation in the One Direction alum’s death: a hotel employee.
