Lenovo Auto Twist: A laptop with a voice that responds to ‘Open,’ ‘Close,’ and even ‘Dance’

Explore how AI can enhance your 9-to-5 – and empower your 5-to-9.

At the IFA 2024 show, Lenovo unveiled a gaggle of new laptops featuring the shiny new Intel Core Ultra 200V chips.

The integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips, found inside some of the best laptops of 2024 (eg, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7), are frowned upon, but there’s a new sheriff in town.

Intel says its Core Ultra 200V series processors can deliver up to 20 hours of battery life. We will have to test this bold announcement for ourselves, but these processors can be found inside Lenovo’s new ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition (among other Lenovo laptops).

While checking out the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition, however, Lenovo surprised me with a voice-activated concept laptop called the “Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC.”

Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC: What can it do?

Lenovo Auto Twist can respond to the following commands, with “Hi Twist” as the wake-up word.

The most jaw-dropping commands were “Hi Twist, Open Tablet Mode” and “Hi Twist, Dancing Mode.” In clamshell mode, I watched the Lenovo laptop rotate its display 180-degrees – like a girl The Exorcist — and fold back into tablet mode.

The command “Hi Twist, Dancing Mode” showed the full range of motion of the Lenovo Auto Twist. With the ballerina on the screen, I saw the laptop do 180 degrees before placing the display in an awkward, unnatural position. (Hey, not all laptops have a beat; give this one a break.)

The purpose behind Lenovo Auto Twist is affordability. Some users may benefit from a voice-activated laptop that does not require specific manual maneuvers.

Also, the Lenovo Auto Twist is just a proof idea, so you won’t find it on the market anytime soon. But it gives us a vision of the future, it gives us an understanding of what may happen to us.
