Junior doctors protesting against the rape of a medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have called a “mass meeting” on October 26 to take a call on how to continue their agitation.
Ashfaqulla, a junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital, said they were not satisfied with their meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat, Nabanna, on Monday.
Others junior doctors were of the opinion that their demands were not discussed in detail at Monday’s meeting.
Ashfaqulla added, “We had ‘We Want Justice’ badges on our clothes. We were told to take it off and enter the meeting place. None of us agreed to this. But we were forced to remove the badge citing administrative practices. We agreed because our main goal was to have constructive discussions with the government.”
Ashfaqullah said, “We felt that he spoke more as a party leader than as a Chief Minister. He presented various figures that we already know. Our aim is to improve the health sector of the government by correcting the weaknesses.”
Another junior doctor at RG Kar Hospital said, “If there was a place to talk today, maybe we wouldn’t have lost.
our sister is like this. We need a democratic space where we can raise our issues. That is why these committees exist
it’s important.”
