Kolkata doctor rape: Records in RG Kar rape case altered in police station, CBI tells court

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday told a special court that some records related to the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital were “falsified” and “altered” at the Tala police station.

The CBI had sought extension of tenure of Tala police station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal and former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh.

During the hearing of the case, the CBI said that during the interrogation of both the accused, other facts emerged which showed that some false records related to the case were created or altered in the Tala police station.

The CBI told the court that it has taken CCTV footage from the police station which has been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Kolkata, for examination.

“Some things are beyond CBI’s investigation. There is no magic wand in our hand that can do everything in an instant. We need time. We have released information from their mobile phones and CCTV footage. We are still collecting evidence. That’s why we pray that we will be remanded by the court till September 30,” said the CBI lawyer. he told the court.

The Sealdah court accepted the CBI plea and extended the CBI custody of Ghosh and Mondal till September 30.

The CBI arrested Mondal on September 14 while Sandip Ghosh, who was already under court arrest for corruption, was arrested on September 15 after court orders.

The 31-year-old doctor was found raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital on August 9. Kolkata police arrested Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect, the next day.
