Katy Perry fans cheered as they watched his pre-match AFL Grand Final match on Saturday, September 28, in Melbourne, Australia.

When the 39-year-old singer performed her 2010 hit “Teenage Dream” at the MCG stadium, dozens of dancers in silver and pink balloon costumes came out in full force – except for one who was sad, heartbroken.

“Melted balloon is Katy Perry’s new left shark,” reads the TikTok video, which shows a bursting balloon dancing before exiting the arena.

Commenters posted amazing reactions, with one cheekily mentioning Perry’s “Firework” trope: “✨Do you ever feel like that plastic bag floating in the air wants to start over✨.”

“Commitment to the schedule though 😅,” wrote another.

Over the years, viewers have seen Super Bowl moments during the halftime show that were memorable for a variety of reasons. In 2004, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake presented a controversial performance that continued to be the topic of discussion. Meanwhile, Jackson joined Timberlake as a surprise guest, and the wardrobe malfunction ended […]

The deflated balloon was reminiscent of the “Left Shark” character who made headlines during Perry’s Super Bowl XLIX halftime show in 2015. During her performance of “Teenage Dream,” the singer was flanked on stage by two dancers wearing giant blue shark costumes. On the right it seemed to be dancing in sync; However, the Left Shark swung like a fish out of water, and had a quick reaction.

The man in charge of the costume, Bryan Gaw, revealed in an interview in 2018 that he played well. “I’m wearing a 7-foot blue shark costume. Nothing cool about that. So what is the other option? Well, I’m going to play a different character,” he told NPR.

Surprisingly, Perry mentioned Left Shark in a pre-match interview with the AFL last week, telling reporters that such a surprise could happen again.

“You know, I’ve been asking for Pesto [the Australian penguin] to be seen, but with the weather changing four times in one day here in Melbourne – when it was about to snow yesterday, I thought maybe the conditions would be good – but on Saturday it would be nice and toasty so I wouldn’t make him think he was going out. But, I will go to him and get a blessing.”

Teasing what to expect during his set, he said, “There are over 150 dancers. It’s going to be really fun, bigger than life, really bright, and full of songs that everyone wants to sing along to.”

In addition to “Teenage Dream,” Perry performed hits such as “Roar,” “Dark Horse,” “California Gurls” and “Firework,” as well as two songs from her new album. 143: “Good” and “Times of a Lifetime.”
