JonBenét Ramseyfather of John Ramseyhe still believes there is a chance his murder will be solved nearly three decades later after DNA testing.

“We are encouraged that finally the police will use the skills and resources of the FBI to help solve our case,” said John, 81, told. The US Sun on Thursday, December 26, which was the 28th anniversary of JonBenét’s death.

John plans to sit down with Boulder’s new police chief Stephen Redfearn about the case. They will specifically discuss hiring the FBI to help and use new DNA testing to narrow down the list of suspects.

“Let’s just say they now use state-of-the-art DNA labs to do proper DNA profiling for family genealogy research,” notes John. “If so, we have a good chance to find out who the killer is.”

Over the years, Boulder police have pursued numerous suspects and leads, including his brother, Burke Ramseyand JonBenét’s parents, Patsy and John. A grand jury voted to indict the pair in 1999, but the indictment was never signed by the Boulder district attorney due to a lack of evidence. The couple were released in 2008 and continue to advocate for JonBenét’s killer. (Patsy died of ovarian cancer in 2006.)

“What we’re standing for – and what we’ve been doing for the last year or so, violently, is that we know there were five or six things that were taken from the scene. They were sent to the lab for DNA samples and they weren’t,” John told the camera to the three-part doctor. “We want those things to be sampled. We want what has been sampled to be retested. Then use a public genealogy database to look for – not just a match – but a common relative. That has been used successfully in the past few years by police departments to find killers in old cold cases.”
