Joel Embiid sustains sinus fracture in Sixers' 121-107 loss to Pacers

Joel Embiid suffered a sinus fracture when he was hit in the face by the Philadelphia 76ers.‘ 121-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday night.

Embiid left the game before halftime Friday night after getting hit in the face while going for a defensive rebound.

Embiid was fighting with Indiana’s Benedict Mathurin when he caught a deflected forearm and an elbow to the bridge of the nose. Embiid crumpled to the ground as the game went down and sat down next to the Philadelphia bench, holding his face.

The team took him off at the start of the second half with a “contusion on the right side of the face” and said he would continue to be tested. He had 12 points, four rebounds and five assists in 17 1/2 minutes in the 76ers’ 121-107 loss.

Embiid was playing in just his sixth of 23 games for Philadelphia. He suffered from inflammation of his left knee and was suspended for three games for a physical incident with a reporter.

Embiid has also suffered a number of facial injuries, including a fractured orbital bone after colliding with Toronto’s Pascal Siakam during the 2022 playoffs and one in 2018 after colliding with teammate Markelle Fultz. Last year, Embiid developed Bell’s Palsy during a first-round loss in New York.
