JCB enables seamless processing of ETA applications for travelers to the UK

JCB International, Japan’s international payment brand, has announced that JCB Cards are now accepted for payment of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) application fee for JCB Cardmembers traveling to the United Kingdom.

From 8 January 2025, visitors from selected countries and territories will need an ETA before entry. In response to this change, JCB revealed that applicants can now pay the ETA application fee using their JCB Card, providing more convenience and ensuring a seamless payment experience during the application process.

This partnership comes at an important time, as new UK border rules require an ETA application fee of £10 (GBP) via the official ETA UK website. By accepting JCB, the UK government ensures a seamless and accessible application process for the 158 million JCB card members worldwide.

This will remove potential obstacles, and provide a convenient and quick solution as they prepare for their trip to the UK.

As international travel resumes, the UK is preparing for a new wave of visitors. As shown in the latest report from Visit Britain (Oct 2024), the data shows a steady increase in inbound tourism and spending in the UK, particularly between Asian countries and territories.

Although these numbers are behind 2019, the report highlights that Japan was among the countries and regions that saw the strongest growth from 2023. By enabling JCB card acceptance for ETA applications, the UK welcomes a large proportion of international travellers, many from Asia. , and to remove friction from the logging process. The plan is in line with broader efforts to simplify travel procedures and strengthen border security.

Ray Shinzawa, Managing Director, JCB International (Europe) Ltd, said: “JCB is delighted to provide our cardmembers with a smooth and efficient way to apply for a UK ETA. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to improving our members’ travel experience and supporting programs that promote safe and easy cross-border travel.”

“JCB enables seamless transactions on ETA applications for travelers to the UK” was originally created and published by Electronic Payments International, a product owned by GlobalData.
