Two policemen were found dead on Sunday with bullet wounds in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, in what officials suspect is a case of “suicide and murder”.
After the incident, senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police reached the spot and conducted an investigation. The initial investigation revealed that it was a case of “suicide and fratricide”.
“PS ​​Rehmbal received information that 2 policemen from Sopore were going towards STC Talwara in a police vehicle injured due to firing. Preliminary investigation reveals that it is a case of murder of children and suicide. Senior police officers have reached the spot and investigation is on. ,” Police in Udhampur said in the post to X.
Bullet-riddled bodies were seen lying in a police van outside the Kali Mata temple in Udhampur around 6.30 am on Sunday, December 8, following which the police were alerted.
According to officials, the slain policemen were on their way from north Kashmir’s Sopore to a subordinate training center (STC) in Reasi district of Talwara district when the incident took place.
After the incident, the bodies of the slain officials were taken to the Udhampur hospital for post-mortem. The two policemen, who died, were the driver and the Jammu and Kashmir police chief.
Another police constable who was also traveling in the same car survived unexpectedly and was being interrogated about the incident.
In June 2023, a 23-year-old special police officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police shot himself dead with his rifle in Kathua district.
