After Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President K Meghachandra Singh was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the action of the investigating agency. He called it a “political vendetta” against Singh for his criticism of the BJP government.
Ramesh said the summons was meant to silence Singh, who had spoken ill of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The summons issued to Singh is dated October 3, and he has asked Meghachandra to appear at his office in New Delhi on Monday to give evidence and produce records related to the investigation.
However, this leader did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. He said he received this notification only on Monday and he could not appear on time. “I don’t understand why the ED called me. I am a member of Parliament, not a minister,” he said.
Manipur Congress spokesperson N Bupendra Meitei extended his support to Meghachandra on social media, and announced that the party will fight the issue legally in court.
Meghachandra Singh is known for his staunch opposition to the BJP and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
