Ira Khan, daughter of Bollywood star Aamir Khan from his first marriage, has been open about her battle with clinical depression as well as and the impact of his parents’ divorce on him. Aamir and Reena Dutta tied the knot in 1986 and separated in 2002 after 16 years of marriage, sharing two children: Ira and Junaid Khan. Recently, Ira revealed that therapy not only helped him deal with his problems but also gave him a deeper understanding of his parents. In an interview with actress Ahsaas Channa, she revealed that relationships with parents, like marriages, require effort and that it is important to see parents as individuals and not just caregivers.
Ira said:During my depressionI learned a lot of things that I wish I had learned before. You have been hearing for a few years that marriage is a compromise and you should work on your marriage and things like that. But so are your parents. As with any relationship you have to work at it. No one really tells you that you have to build a relationship with your parents.”

He added, “Also, because you are still a child and at some point, you become an adult when you should no longer see your parents as parents. You have to see them as people. But that change doesn’t happen, which means they aren’t allowed to make mistakes, they will, and they will continue to raise a child, not on purpose. It’s very difficult.”
Ira Khan also admitted that he didn’t really know his parents Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta as people. “I realized that when my therapist said, what do your parents like? I was like, I don’t really know them as people. I know them only as my parents. And how can I have a relationship with someone if I don’t know them see? And it’s really strange and interesting to know your parents as people,” Ira, who said she married her longtime boyfriend and celebrity fitness trainer Nupur Shikhare last year, shared.
