Key Offensive Players Who May Not Be In The Upcoming Game
The 49ers, currently based in Santa Clara, California, may be without their top three offensive linemen for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. George Kittle, who missed practice sessions Thursday and Friday with a hamstring injury, is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. If Kittle is ruled out, he’ll join running back Christian McCaffrey and receiver Deebo Samuel on the sidelines, both of whom have already been sidelined with calf and Achilles issues, and calf injuries respectively.
The Defending Side Also Faces Potential Losses
On the defensive side, two of the 49ers’ starters, Nick Bosa and Charvarius Ward, are currently listed as questionable. Bosa, a defensive tackle, suffered a rib injury during practice, while Ward, a linebacker, missed practice with a sprain and knee discomfort. However, both were able to participate a little in Friday’s practice. Coach Kyle Shanahan explained that both players were still sore after Wednesday’s full practice.
Good Injury News: Talanoa Hufanga Cleared to Return
Amid injury concerns, the 49ers received some good news. Talanoa Hufanga, who was recovering from an ACL tear in his knee, will be safe, and has been cleared to play. His return to the field will depend on the flow of the game, and it is possible that George Odum and Malik Mustapha will step in to share the safety duties with Ji’Ayir Brown.
Hufanga expressed his excitement at returning after a long recovery period, where he used the time to bond with his family, delve into the playbook, and analyze game footage.
Emergency Plans Are in Place
With Kittle likely to be sidelined, the team is likely to rely on veteran Eric Saubert to fill the void. Saubert has proven his reliability and consistency, and Coach Shanahan believes he is up to the challenge if needed.
Despite the absence of McCaffrey, Samuel, and Kittle, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy remains optimistic about their options, including receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings, and running back Jordan Mason. Purdy emphasizes the importance of maintaining efficiency in his role, regardless of the changing schedule, and focuses on improving his performance with available resources.
