A four-year-old army dog, named Phantom, died after being hit by a bullet from terrorists during an encounter in Akhnoor area of ​​Jammu district on Monday (October 28, 2024), the army said.

“The courage, loyalty and devotion of the dog – Phantom – will never be forgotten,” it added.

“Born on May 25, 2020, the male Belgian Malinois was an attack dog and was deployed with the unit on August 12, 2022, after graduating from the Remount Veterinary Corps in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut,” said an Army official.

The White Knight Corps of the Jammu-based Army said in a post X, “We pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of our true hero – the brave dog of the Indian Army, Phantom.”

“When our troops approached and attacked the trapped insurgents, the Phantom drew enemy fire, causing heavy casualties,” it added.

“In the ongoing operation, one terrorist has been neutralized and militant shops have been found,” it continued.
