Two summer, our children begged us to stop the location of the lemade. Over the three years old, they could not guy the surgery – except to escape the beauty and remove cars (and let’s be honest, I did most of the parking). All I saw was a job: To reduce lemons, buy things, and keep all cold colds on the happy Texas Day. Our kitchen turned to the battlefield as (i) stimulated leprosy liters. But we build our planes and make our hand-handed signs and Father, send the Scriptures to friends, and wear my daughter in a very yellow dress. Of course, cars were reduced, and coins were arrested.
We all felt proud. The children got confidence about each new customer. And somewhere in sticky pollution and small talks about neighbors, we found fun that we didn’t know we were lost. These lemonade standing symptoms remained in our garage – Merento from the summer day that, despite all our doubts, it was one of our favorites.

I saw me thinking about my relatives growing in ’40s. It is easy to date, but in my experience, those long things, in the lazy days were very happy. They were slow, deleted, and filled with rollerblavards, weekly visits, reading sewing pillar and my mom, and reading what to do with all this coming day. Now, we live in a world of overcrowded schedules and glorious screens, and when they have good intentions, something important is lost: boredom. And so? To think. Play. Easily. Communication.
I started asking how I can get a little back, a slight summer experiences of my children in a world that often appreciates the opposite. And I may not have all the answers, but the road map is determined to test, tubs and everything.
The boredom is a fuel of art
In An anxious generationJonathan Haidt writes, “Moving is a childhood work, and all the mammals are the same job: Fire up your brain by playing stronger and often.” What is summer if not the full invitation to play freely and often?
It is true that children flourish in the process, even in the summer. And as a working parent, I know how important the building is. It helps me get the real presence packets instead of broadcasting myself too young. But intelligence requires an open space of breathing. So edit what is important, but find balance by keeping a few days or afternoon are very open.
On the other side of “I do not know what to do is doooo” is the real magic: the opportunity to invent, create and grow.
Help artificial arts by putting open toys like Hula Hoops, next to Chalk, jumping the wires, or spraying. Then, here is the key: Give yourself a little monitoring permission. Resist the temptation to guide or solve problems. Give them the first opportunity and decide what to play, or find out how to get a string of leap is released, or use disagreements with your sibling or sibling. Let them stick. Let them be dirty. Be diligent. On the other side of “I do not know what to do is doooo” is the real magic: the opportunity to invent, create and grow.
What to make sure to lay the foundation of arts, solving problems, emotional growth, and strong. And maybe most important, you make inspiration and independence by giving them the opportunity to decide to do so, not what is cut off.
Remove back back
Children are thriving when we give them sunlight on the screen. The lesson of 2022 found that many hours without result in less stress, bright feelings, and sharp thoughts. And when we reduce their time online, we protect their sleep, focus, and the natural desire of travel. Science confirms what we’ve already known in our bowels: Children are so happy when living real life, not watching it.
So, how do we beat your balance in today’s world? Start with summer program. You don’t need to go to off-grid completely (unless you want). The key is a variable, clear expectations, and for example. Here are a few simple ideas of rules:
- No screens before 10am or after 6 PM. Create a random play space in the morning and family contact evening.
- One day of weeks per week. Choose the perfect detox date of Tech. Let children help them plan for fun.
- Get your time screen time. An hour outside, reading, or creating creative playing technology in the afternoon.
- Calls stay at home. On the days of the beach, ride a bike, or hikes, leave the devices behind.
- Incoming tech areas. Keep devices from bedrooms, at the dinner table, and away during the family movie.
There are no relevant rules. It is about the most important matters: existence, communication and the kind of joy that lives with memory.
Let the summer itself be a fun
I had to organize lemonade stop, I’m sure, but it didn’t take a lot of the afternoon, a bag (or five) for the rainman, and little willingness to accept dirt. Old children receive, which can lead. The goodness of this is: Simple view, the more space should run with.
You don’t need to be happy all day. You are not a cruise director, and your house is not summer camp. Allow things to simplify. That would mean giving up pressure to fill the entire empty spot on the calendar and trust that boredom is where the best things start.
Start by showing your children what it means to be neighbors. Say hi for the people of your journey. Forward the plate of cookies are not intended. Wave in the family down the road, and the next time your children say they are bored, lifting knocking on the door of the friend. Sometimes good summer memories come from unplanned stadiums, “Want to come and play?”
Personally, I am very happy to bring back the fun of Snakee MAIL and my children about these summer characters, stamps, envelopes, and everything. Help your children get a pen pal and let them write to your cousin or friend. Bonus: There’s something magical by waiting for a response to get to the mailbox. It builds patience, communication, and happiness – something that will never again.
Most importantly, trust in Slownss and let the summer happen as usual. Summer is full of times of childhood. And it is easy to create rather than we think.
