Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Sunday shared that he prayed for a solution to this The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid controversy before making a decision, stressing that God will find a way for those who have faith. He said these words while talking to the residents of his hometown, Pune.
Thinking about his time the case of Ayodhya is discussedwhich lasted for three months, CJI Chandrachud observed, “Many times we have cases (to be tried) but we do not reach a solution. The same happened during the Ayodhya (Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid) dispute which was before me. three months”.
“I sat in front of God and told him that he must find a solution,” said the Chief Justice, as quoted by PTI news agency. Asserting that he prays regularly, the CJI said, “Believe me, if you have faith, God will always find a way”.
The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute was an old legal and political issue over whether the 16th century Mughal mosque was built after demolishing a temple on the site, said to be the birthplace of Lord Ram.
On 9 November 2019, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Chandrachud, resolved the dispute with its verdict, ending a conflict that has been going on for almost 70 years. The Supreme Court allowed the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya while earmarking an additional five-acre site for the mosque.
CJI Chandrachud visited the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in July, where he offered prayers. The ceremony of cleaning the idols took place on January 22 this year, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
