Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (January 15, 2024) praised the Indian Army for its determination, professionalism and dedication, and emphasized his government’s commitment to the welfare of the armed forces and their families.

In the notes on X on Armistice Day, Mr. Modi said, “Today, on Army Day, we salute the unflinching courage of the Indian Army, which represents the guard of our country. We also remember the sacrifices made by brave hearts to ensure the safety of Indians every day.”

He said the Indian army exudes determination, professionalism and dedication. In addition to protecting our borders, it has made a mark in providing humanitarian aid during natural disasters, he added.

“Our government is committed to the well-being of the armed forces and their families. Over the years, we have introduced several reforms and focused on improving modern facilities. This will continue in the future,” said the Prime Minister.

Army Day is celebrated to commemorate the milestone of General KMCariappa, later Field Marshal, taking over as Army chief from General FRRBucher in 1949, becoming the first Indian to hold that position.
