Suryaraopeta beach in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada witnessed a dramatic homecoming as Goli Shyamala, 52, emerged from the sea, having conquered a grueling 150 km swim from Visakhapatnam.
This feat, completed in five days, is not only a personal victory for Shyamala, a veteran swimmer, but a powerful message of resilience and determination for people of all ages.
Shyamala, a resident of Samarkota village in Kakinada district, began her long-awaited journey on December 28, under the watchful eye of the Coromandel Odyssee Ocean Swimming organization. Enduring the relentless rhythm of the waves, he maintained an incredible pace of 30 kilometers a day, pushing his physical and mental limits to reach his destination.
Her arrival was met with jubilant celebrations, with dignitaries including Peddapuram MLA Chinarajappa and Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Bhavana Vasista joining the crowds to congratulate the brave swimmer.
Shyamala’s achievement adds another milestone to her already impressive record. In 2021, he swam across the Palk Strait, and in February, he conquered the waters around the Lakshadweep Islands, becoming the first Asian to do the double.
Shyamala’s journey was not a solo one. A dedicated team of 14 staff, including medical staff and scuba divers, accompanied him during the difficult swim, ensuring his safety and providing vital support.
While he spoke fondly of the times he shared with playful dolphins, he also acknowledged the challenges posed by jellyfish encounters in the open ocean.
Shyamala’s swimming is more than just an amazing physical feat; it is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. In a world often dominated by the narrative of youthful success, Shyamala’s story serves as a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to pursuing your dreams.
