A US judge denies a request to delay the surrender date

According to court documents, Salame’s team requested another delay in his surrender date. Wednesday’s court decision asked US Judge Lewis A. Kaplan to extend the report date from October 11 to December 7, citing the need to “continue treatment deemed necessary by his treating physician to recover from the injuries he received on or about June 19, 2024. . “

In June, the former FTX officer was injured in the face by a dog bite, which led to his first day of reporting to prison being pushed from August 29 to this Friday as he had to receive the necessary medical attention and surgery.

Federal prosecutors criticized Salame’s request in a letter sent to a judge Thursday, saying the “eleventh-hour request” did not provide a compelling reason to extend his surrender date a second time.

In addition, prosecutors highlighted that Salame’s previous plea was accepted before he admitted to lying under oath.FTX

As reported by Bitcoinist, Judge Kaplan expressed his frustration with the former FTX manager for giving “false testimony” during his guilty plea in 2023. A US judge also threatened to impose sanctions on Salame during a court hearing in September.

On Thursday, the court rejected Salame’s request for a date for his surrender, largely agreeing with the prosecutors’ argument that suggested “the said treatment—following the necessary treatment and surgery that has already been completed—seems good and unnecessary.”

Because of this, Judge Kaplan concluded that Salame must surrender today, not later than 2:00 pm, as planned.
