Fresh violence broke out in Manipur on Saturday (October 19, 2024) as militants attacked a village in Jiribam district, an official said.
Using sophisticated weapons, the terrorists opened fire at a village near the Borobekra police station at around 05:00, he said.
They also charge bombs, he added.
The CRPF personnel and the police retaliated and a heavy fire broke out, the official said.
He said more security forces were being rushed to the area. No injuries have been reported so far.
Old women, women and children were being moved to safer places by the police as the violence broke out.
Borobekra, 30 kilometers away from Jiribam town, is surrounded by dense forests and mountainous terrain. This area has experienced incidents of this type of attack after ethnic violence in the State in May last year.
The violence was reported days after talks between Members of Parliament of the warring Meitei and Kuki communities in New Delhi in an attempt to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict.
