“Here’s the thing about addicts: we know each other. Whether we have been clean for 10 days or 10 years, there is this unspoken recognition. The vibe, the nod, ‘yeah, I see you.’ Fast,” Lassner, 58, began on his Instagram Story on Thursday, January 9. “tWitch never gave me that. At all. He carried light, joy, and grace in a way that made people feel safe and visible. Every day his strength was not the chaos of addiction – it was the calmness that so many of us strive for.”
Lassner continued, “Obviously, as an addict, I know about keeping secrets and bullshit—- the world about who we are. I’m not saying that maybe there weren’t some things about his life that I was completely missing. But if they were, he could hide as well as anyone I’ve ever seen. Always.”
Lassner noted that his heart “never stopped hurting” for Boss’s family, including Holker, 36, and their three children. (Boss and Holker, who married in 2013, share daughter Zaia, 5, and son Maddox, 8. He was the adoptive father of Holker’s oldest daughter, Wesley, 16.)

“I’m not here to analyze what’s right or wrong, or true or not,” Lassner concluded. But I’m here to tell you that the man I knew for many years was an absolute king and I think he deserves to be remembered that way.
Lassner’s statement came a day after Holker drew criticism for revealing new and personal details about her late husband’s alleged drug and childhood sexual abuse in her new book, a memoir. So Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light. (The boss died by suicide at the age of 40 in December 2022.)
Holker went on to issue a statement explaining why he included that information in his book. “For Stephen’s fans, our family and friends, I want to make it clear that my only purpose in writing this book is to share my story and part of my life with Stephen to help other people,” Holker wrote on his Instagram. Story for Wednesday, January 8. “Like you, I never really know what happened, and as I try to put these pieces together I never really will.”
In his message, Holker said he hopes readers will see that he intends to “celebrate the love and life” he and Boss had with their family.

“I hope that by sharing our full history, maybe I can help someone else who may identify themselves or a loved one with Stephen,” Holker continued. “In my sharing, I hope that maybe they can catch some of the red flags that I missed before it’s too late.”
While writing the memoir, Holker said she spoke with several mental health nonprofits over the past two years to make sure she was accurately portraying the subject. Holker added that he plans to donate money from the book to a foundation he created in Boss’s memory.
“My hope is that we will not have to lose another husband, brother, father or friend to suicide,” she said. “I believe that if Stephen had a choice, he would choose to have his story told if it meant saving even one life. We love all those who have supported our family over the years.”
One day later, Boss’s mother, Connie Boss Alexanderslapped Holker. “Our family is deeply shocked by the misleading and hurtful claims made about my son, Stephen Boss,” Boss Alexander wrote on Instagram Thursday. “The recent books that spread lies about Stefanu exceed all areas of respect. I, as his mother, will not let go of these accusations. We will not allow his name and legacy to be tarnished. He doesn’t deserve this, and the children don’t deserve this.”

Boss Alexander said he has “remained quiet and out of the public eye to protect my family” for the past two years.
“My main focus was healing and trying to stay in touch with my grandchildren,” he continued. But when I read this bad news about my child, Stephen, whom we love, I realized that I could no longer remain silent. Our family will ensure that his name and memory are protected, and we are determined to protect his honor.”
In the comments section of the post, Lassner responded, “Sending you so much love.” Us Weekly reached out to Holker’s attorney for comment at the time.
