FBI officials provided an update Sunday on their investigation into last Wednesday’s deadly truck attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

A man riding a rented truck rammed into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve in the city’s French Quarter, killing 14 people and injuring scores of others in what is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

The day after the incident, the FBI said the truck driver had turned himself in, disputing allegations that he may have been with them.

Investigators say they are still looking into what motivated Shamsud-Din Jabbar to carry out the attack before he was killed by police during a firefight. The former US soldier announced his support for the Islamic State militant group in online videos posted hours before he struck.

FBI Director Christopher Raia said on Thursday that investigators do not currently believe that there is anyone other than a suspect involved in the truck attack in New Orleans, which he described as an ‘act of terrorism’ that killed 14 innocent people.

The victims were remembered in a vigil in the city on Saturday night, and US President Joe Biden plans to visit New Orleans on Monday to mourn with the families of the victims.
