A house fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua claimed six lives, including a former DSP and two children, while four others sustained injuries.

Six people, including a former deputy superintendent of police, died after a fire broke out in their house in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua. This incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday, when the family was sleeping.

Four others received burn injuries in the incident and were treated at the hospital.

Local people told the police that they saw the house on fire around 2:30 in the morning and rushed to rescue those inside, PTI media reported.

The house was filled with thick smoke, putting those inside out of sleep.

When they were all rushed to the hospital, six of them, including two children, were said to have died.

The deceased have been identified as former deputy SP Avtar Krishen Raina, 81, his daughter Barkha Raina (25), son Takash (3), Ganga Bhagat, 17, Danish Bhagat, 15, and 6. -senior Advik, a police officer told PTI.

The injured and undergoing treatment are Swarna, 61, wife of Avtar Krishen Raina, Neetu Devi (40), Arun Kumar (15), and a 69-year-old woman.

“Ten people were brought to the hospital. Six were brought dead, four were injured,” the report quotes Dr. Surinder Atri, the hospital’s principal.

The initial investigation revealed that the victims died of smoke inhalation and snoring.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered and the police are investigating the cause of the fire.
