The fake airdrop posts on the EigenLayer X account followed a specific pattern, starting with a message promoting the redistribution of fake EIGEN tokens to Season 2 participants.
This initial post contained a malicious link to trick users into participating in a fraud scheme. Soon after, the hackers sent another message urging users to make a claim and finally shared a third “last call” post to increase the urgency.
This post closely mimics the official announcement of EigenLayer’s real Season 2 stakedrop, which was released in September, and its claim period was over.

Notably, the scam incident involving EigenLayer is not a new trick. Hackers have often used this method to lure investors with scams.
Most recently, the FBI arrested a perpetrator after the January hack of the US SEC’s X account, which led to false postings that the US SEC had approved the listing of Bitcoin exchanges—a move the SEC had not officially announced.
