LOS ANGELES — Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman left Sunday’s National League Division Series game against the San Diego Padres after five innings because of ankle discomfort.
Freeman started in the first game of the first two games of the series despite rolling his ankle in a Sept. 26 game against the Padres. He did not play in any of the Dodgers’ final three regular season games.
The veteran left-hander went 2-for-5 in Game 1 of the series on Saturday and was 0-for-2 in Game 2 on Sunday. Los Angeles moved third baseman Max Muncy from first base to start the sixth inning, and Enrique Hernandez took over at third.
Freeman, 35, hit .282 with 22 home runs and 89 RBIs in 147 games this season. In 15 career seasons, the 2020 NL MVP is hitting .300 with 343 home runs and 1,232 RBIs in 2,032 games for the Atlanta Braves (2010-21) and Dodgers (2022-24) .
