Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar termed the visit of Jagdambika Pal, Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee considering the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, to Karnataka as a ‘political game for the sake of elections’.
Speaking to the media in Hubballi on November 7, he said, “Everything is a political game because of the elections.” It is the land of the Kingdom and it is the subject of the Kingdom. The BJP itself had started this process in 2019, and had given notices to the farmers. Even in Dharwd, they had given notices, and it is a continuation of that.”
Mr. Shivakumar said his government is committed to protecting the interests of farmers. “There is no record we will change, we will all fix it. We will not allow any farmer to face the problem,” he said.
He pointed out that the process of issuing notices was started by the BJP, which is now trying to blame the Congress. “JPC had no authority to intervene in this matter. The Chairman of the JPC may have come for political reasons,” he said, adding that it is not an officially appointed JPC.
