Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States by Chief Justice John Roberts at the US Capitol on Monday. The 78-year-old man raised his right hand to take the oath on his behalf but did not put his hand on the Bible at the time.
“I swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully exercise the Office of the President of the United States, and will do to the best of my ability, to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Trump said in his oath.

His actions sparked a wave of reactions on social media.
Many users expressed their concern, with one commenting, “He will destroy the Constitution; that’s why he wants to be a dictator, not a president,” while another added, “He is not willing to follow the constitution.”
Others had mixed feelings, such as, “It was rushed, unfortunately. Trump’s wife didn’t have time before the swearing-in began,” and, “I put it another way… it would have been great if she had put her hand on her two bibles! There is no one like God! May God be with Donald Trump. “
According to reports, Trump used two Bibles – one given to him by his mother, and Lincoln’s Bible at the event.
Lincoln used the same during his inauguration in 1861. Trump had used the two in 2017 and in his first inauguration.
Trump’s vice president, JD Vance, was sworn in by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
In his inaugural address, Trump declared, “America’s golden age begins now,” outlining his priorities on trade, immigration and national security. He criticized former President Joe Biden, who was present at the event, and declared, “the decline of America is over.” Trump also recounted surviving an assassination attempt last year, saying he was “saved by God to make America great again.”
