Delhi weather news today: heavy fog to affect flights from Indira Gandhi International Airport – Delhi News

Dense fog enveloped parts of Delhi on Thursday as the temperature dropped to 10 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am. Due to reduced visibility, authorities at the Delhi airport said that flight operations may be affected.

The visibility of the runway is between 200 to 500 meters, while the normal visibility at the IGI airport is down to zero at 6 am. Operations to land flights in low visibility conditions are underway, the Delhi airport said.

The performance of aircraft not equipped to land in low-visibility areas may be affected.

According to FlightRadar24, at least 80 flights were delayed, with the average delay being 13 minutes. As many as five flights have been canceled so far.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for several places in Delhi for moderate fog and isolated areas of dense fog.

The high and low temperatures predicted today are 17 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius respectively.

On New Year, residents of Delhi woke up to the third consecutive day of cold conditions when the mercury dipped to 7.4 degrees while the maximum temperature remained at 15 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal.

The IMD has predicted improved visibility and slightly warmer weather from January 3, providing relief to Delhi residents from cold temperatures and dense fog. A cold day is when the maximum temperature is between 4.5 to 6.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
