The Centre-ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the national capital. In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP is hoping to make a comeback after more than 25 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party will be competing against the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) in the Union Territory.

The BJP’s initial list of candidates includes 29 candidates, including former MP Parvesh Verma (son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma) and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri. While Verma will be pitted against former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi, Bidhuri will be pitted against Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji.
Other prominent figures in the BJP’s list of candidates include Dushyant Kumar Gautam, Ashish Sood, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Kailash Gahlot and Satish Upadhyay.

Fighting for 70 Delhi Assembly seats
The Delhi Legislative Assembly has 70 seats.
In the 2020 Assembly Elections in the national capital, the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party won a clear majority with 62 out of 70 seats.
