Nearly two days after being submerged in the heavily polluted waters of the Yamuna River, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva was admitted to hospital on Saturday after complaining of difficulty breathing and a skin rash.
Sachdeva was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital. Earlier, he was examined by doctors at RML hospital who gave him medicine for three days.
A BJP leader on Thursday waded into the polluted waters of the Yamuna and criticized former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for his “failure” to fulfill his promise to clean it by 2025.
He “asked for forgiveness” for the “corruption” of the Delhi government, which he said looted money meant for cleaning the river, PTI news agency reported.
He also promised to set up a Yamuna Cleaning Authority if the BJP comes to power in Delhi, after the upcoming Assembly polls.

On Wednesday, Sachdeva challenged Kejriwal to immerse himself in the river, saying he had promised the people of Delhi that he would clean it before Chhath puja 2025 so they could bathe in it.
Ahead of the Purvanchali festival of Chhath, which is celebrated days after Diwali, the ruling AAP and the BJP have been calling it quits due to heavy pollution and toxic foaming in the river.
The BJP has set up a platform at Chhath Ghat with two seats for Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and his predecessor Arvind Kejriwal, without laying a red carpet to welcome them.
“We are waiting for them but they did not come at the time set at 10 in the morning. The Delhi BJP president after waiting for half an hour threw himself into the river to express his grief,” Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in a statement accused Sachdeva of indulging in “theatrics” and telling “falsehoods” that have all fallen flat.
