“He was everything to me. For a long time I didn’t even want to believe that it had happened. I didn’t know that even if he is a bad person, he will do something to me,” said Abi, 26, in the first episode of this two-part film. Karma: A Daughter’s Journeyavailable for viewing on the TVEI Network. “I was afraid to tell anyone. I was too scared to tell my mother.”
Abi (real name: Joann Kelly) finally told her mother, Drea Kellyregarding an alleged incident that occurred in 2009 when he was 10 years old. In the second part of the doctor, Abi opened up about the alleged abuse, which he said happened when he was 8 or 9 years old.
“I just remember waking up and him touching me,” she said. “And I didn’t know what to do, so I just laid there, and pretended to be asleep.”
After Abi told her mother about the alleged incident, she and her siblings Robert Kelly Jr. again Yes Kellyhe stopped visiting their father following his breakup with Drea. (UR. Kelly, 57, and Drea divorced in 2009 after 13 years of marriage.)
“I feel like that one millisecond just changed my whole life and changed who I was as a person and changed the glow that I had and the light that I used to carry,” he reflected. “After I told my mother, I didn’t go there anymore; my brother and sister did not pass there anymore. And so far I’m still struggling with it.”

Michael Tullberg / Getty ImagesAbi revealed that he and his mother went to the police and filed an anonymous complaint. However, nothing came of it as “he waited too long.”
“They couldn’t prosecute him because I waited a long time,” he said. So at that point in my life, I felt like I had said nothing.
UR. Kelly, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted of child pornography and solicitation, has denied Abi’s allegations.
“Mr. Kelly denies these allegations. His ex-wife made similar allegations years ago, and an investigation by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was unfounded,” the singer’s attorney said. Jennifer Bonjean said the statement to People on Friday, October 11. “And the ‘filmmakers,’ whoever they are, did not reach Mr. Kelly or his team to allow him to deny these damaging allegations.”
After receiving his conviction by the organization in 2022, R. Kelly appealed the decision. In October, the Supreme Court refused to hear the disgraced singer’s case and upheld the decision.
