Vasinova remembers thinking she had the flu when she visited an urgent care center in downtown Los Angeles.
“They decided it was strep and sent me home with antibiotics. But the next day I couldn’t even walk. My legs weren’t moving. It was strange,” he said.
When Vasinova’s uncle rushed her to the emergency room at 2 a.m., she felt like she was “going to die.” His heart stopped beating for three full minutes. The ER nurse made repeated attempts to revive him, and finally found a heartbeat. Vasinova was then put into a coma.
“I was completely unable to do the organ,” he explained. “I went from being young and healthy to this disease that suddenly took over my whole body. It just happened, and it just rocked my world. “

Surviving the near-death experience left Vasinova feeling “more connected” to life.

Vasinova got a chance to directly thank the ER nurse who successfully revived her.
“I found out her name was Ruby, so I went back to the hospital with a little ruby bracelet just to say, ‘Thank you for saving my life,'” she said. “I didn’t know if he would see me, but when he opened the door, I started to cry, but he couldn’t. He told me that he did not know who lived or died after they were transferred. He just gave me a big hug. Because I had been gone for three full minutes. But I’m back.”
