The CPI (M) on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of making “public” remarks in poll-bound Jharkhand and asked the Election Commission (EC) to take action against them for “violating the Model Code of Conduct.”.
In a statement issued after a three-day meeting of the central committee in New Delhi, the party alleged that Prime Minister Modi directly insulted members of the Muslim community by calling them “ghuspethias (infiltrators)”. Calling it a “clear attempt” to create division between communities in order to get votes, it said, “It is criticized that the EC did not appreciate these speeches. It is as if the Prime Minister and the (Union) Interior Minister who made similar statements, are above the law.”
“We want a notice to be issued to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and other BJP leaders who are making public speeches. These include Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Shiv Raj Chauhan,” the group said.
