Ramesh said that the charges brought by Canada are serious. “The Indian National Congress has already asked the Prime Minister to put the leaders of the opposition parties in both the Houses of Parliament, and other political leaders, to trust them in the serious charges leveled against the Indian government by the USA and Canada. This demand is necessary because of the deterioration of India-Canada relations and concerns growing India-US relationship,” the statement said.
“The allegations made by Canada, now supported by several other countries, threaten to escalate, tarnish India’s image globally and damage Brand India,” he said.
Ramesh said “it is important that the Government of India quickly and clearly expresses its position on this issue”.
“The opposition must be fully informed, as protecting India’s position in the world is a shared responsibility. Our country’s image around the world as a law-abiding country is at risk, and it is important that we work together to protect it. In matters of national security and foreign policy, the nation must be united at all times,” he said.
