Trinamool Congress leader Dulal, also known as Babla Sarkar, was shot dead on Thursday in West Bengal’s Malda district. In a post to X, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she described Sarkar as a “close associate” and confirmed that he was “killed.”
According to a Bengali news website ABP Anandalocal sources revealed that Dulal was on his way to his factory after leaving the Trinamool Congress office on Thursday morning when the attack took place.
The four assailants, who were riding two motorcycles, came from behind and fired a total of four rounds. Sarkar was hit by three bullets and injured in the shoulder.
“My close colleague, and very popular leader, Babla Sarkar was killed today. From the beginning of the Trinamool Congress, he (and his wife Chaitali Sarkar) worked tirelessly for the party, and Babla was also elected as a councillor. I am very sad and shocked after knowing about this incident. The culprits must be booked immediately,” Mamata Banerjee said in her book X.
Adding to her note, Mamata Banerjee said she was shocked and did not know how to convey her condolences to the bereaved family.
“May God give Chaitali the strength to survive and fight the war,” said the Chief Minister.
Soon after the incident, Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee urged the police to take swift action, irrespective of the political party.
Trinamool leader Dulal Sarkar was undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College Hospital after being shot. Reports indicate that Sarkar was targeted by a nearby road and hit by three bullets.
