Two senior aviation security officials met Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Monday (October 21, 2024) and discussed the ongoing incidents of bomb threats on Indian airlines, which have led to diversions, cancellations and inconvenience to passengers.
Director General of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) Zulfiquar Hasan and Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Rajwinder Singh Bhatti met Mr. Mohan at the latter’s office in North Block in New Delhi. The three policemen remained detained for about half an hour.
Mr. Hasan and Mr Bhatti, both senior officers of the Indian police force, briefed the Home Secretary about the incidents of bomb threats and the steps taken to check such incidents, the sources said.
However, the details of the meeting are not immediately known.
About 25 Indian airlines received bomb threats on Sunday.
These events happened a day after more than 30 planes of various Indian companies received bomb threats. This week, nearly 100 airlines have received threats that send security agencies into a tizzy. These threats later turned out to be false.
Role of BCAS and CISF
BCAS lays down standards and measures regarding civil aviation security at international and domestic airports in India while remaining sensitive to the ever-changing aviation security environment.
It also uses all standard and recommended international practices and domestic practices.
BCAS coordinates, monitors, inspects and trains personnel on civil aviation security issues, thereby increasing the effectiveness of aviation security and reducing acts of unlawful interference with civil aviation operations.
The CISF guards 68 civilian airports in the country by deploying around 40,000 personnel who provide cover to protect terrorists, dangerous passengers and screen luggage.
