Chhattisgarh police on Saturday (January 18, 2025) said that 18 Maoists – not 12, as announced earlier – were killed in the South Bastar unit earlier this week, resulting from an update released to the media in which the Maoists admitted to losing many members. .
Earlier, 12 dead bodies were recovered following an operation in the forests of Tumrel, Sigampalli, Pujarikanker, and Malempenta in the border areas of Pamed, Usur, and Basaguda police stations in Bijapur district. The security forces targeted the PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army) Battalion No. 01 and the CRC (Central Regional Committee), which is considered one of the strongest forces in the Maoist system.
“In today’s press conference, the Naxals accepted the loss of 18 personnel, including that of Telangana District Committee chief Damodar. It is a major obstacle for Naxals in one of the important fort areas,” said Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P. Sundarraj.

“Just to continue the bad behavior of their groups, the Naxals are alleging injuries to the security forces and violence against the villagers, which is baseless and untrue. We will take this fight to the end and ensure the end of the illegal and banned Maoist outfit,” he added.
