Newly elected RLD member Mithlesh Pal and 14 others appeared before a special MP court in Muzaffarnagar on Friday (December 6, 2024), where they were charged in connection with a traffic disorder case.
These charges stem from an alleged incident in which the defendant blocked a road to protest.
Special Judge Devendra Singh Fauzdar framed charges under sections 147 (riot), 148 (aggravation with a deadly weapon), and 342 (improper detention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Ms. Pal and 14 others.
The court set January 3, 2025, when the case will be heard, said court sources.
The lawyer of Ms. Pal, Kiranpal, confirming the incident, told PTI that a case was registered against 15 people, including the MLA, by the police at the Civil Lines police station on February 25, 2019.
According to the prosecutor, Ms. Pal and others had staged a dharna and blocked the road near Mahavir Chowk to press their demand for inclusion of Dhangar section in the list of scheduled castes and scheduled castes.
Ms. Pal was recently elected as the RLD Member of Parliament in the Meerapur Assembly in the by-election, the result of which was announced on November 23.
