AI-powered TVs are here, whether you want one or not.
Google presented its new TV app at CES 2025, promising many AI offerings. Of course, Google isn’t alone — as Mashable’s Cecily Mauran pointed out, AI-powered TVs are one of the biggest trends at CES 2025.
Here are three things the Gemini-developed TVs will reportedly be able to do after their planned release later this year.
1. Talk to your TV
Have you ever struggled to find that one movie you want? Google seems to think Gemini can help there.

“You and your family will be able to come together and have a natural conversation with your TV. This will make searching through your media easier than ever, and you will be able to ask questions about travel, health, space, history and more, and videos in the results of additional content.”
The idea is that you can use Gemini to ask your TV questions, access certain content, or perform other tasks.
2. Read the news to yourself
As TechCrunch noted, the new Gemini TVs will be able to read you the daily news report that you generate after an “AI assistant. [scrapes] news from all over the internet and YouTube video headlines posted by trusted news channels.” That seems neat on the face of it, but it’s also troubling when you consider all the problems AI — Google included — has had with getting basic facts.

3. Know when you are around
The new TVs will be equipped with proximity sensors, which will enable the TV to “display ‘personalized and informative widgets’ about the weather or news,” notes the Verge.
You may not need to ask Alexa the temperature outside anymore.
