The Center has sought a report from the West Bengal government on the allegations to sing’Kashmir Mange Azadi‘ (Kashmir wants freedom) slogans in a meeting organized to protest the rape and murder of a doctor in training at RG Kar Medical Center and hospital, sources told India Today TV on Wednesday.
Around 15–20 participants of the meeting, who allegedly raised controversial slogans, have also been identified by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Union Home Ministry sources added.
A huge controversy erupted after a video went viral on social media where unidentified people can be heard raising slogans like “Kashmir Mange Azadi”.
After the video went viral, the Kolkata Police filed a case under Sections 152 (relating to acts threatening the sovereignty, unity, or integrity of India) and 285 (relating to safety of people in public places such as public roads) Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The rally was organized in Kolkata’s Jadavpur area to demand justice for a trainee doctor who was raped and killed on August 9. The incident sparked a wave of protests by health workers across India, demanding guidelines for their safety in the workplace.
According to sources, the organizers of the meeting may have been called by the Kolkata Police, sources informed India Today TV.
The Trinamool Congress in West Bengal condemned the video, saying Kashmir is an internal part of India.
