Carmelo Anthony may enter the Basketball Hall of Fame twice next year.
The Hall of Fame released its list of inductees for the Class of 2025 on Thursday, with a list of first-time inductees including Anthony and retired NBA stars Dwight Howard and Marc Gasol.
WNBA legends Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles and Chamique Holdsclaw are all first-time nominees, along with NBA coaches Doc Rivers and Billy Donovan, Miami Heat coach Micky Arison, Gonzaga men’s coach Mark Few and former Iowa women’s coach. Lisa Bluder.
Among the repeat nominees: the 2008 US Olympic men’s basketball team, which included Anthony.
The Hall also unveiled an update to its eligibility requirements, reducing the waiting period for selected players from three full seasons out of the game to two. The change was unanimously approved by the Hall of Fame’s Board of Trustees.
“In order to better recognize the outstanding careers of potential first-ballot candidates in a timely manner, the board has appropriately shortened the waiting period,” said Hall of Fame chairman Jerry Colangelo. “We are pleased with this change and believe that honoring people while their contributions are fresh in people’s minds makes sense and has an impact.”
Thursday’s announcement is the first step in that process. Winners will be selected on Feb. 14 in San Francisco during NBA All-Star weekend, and the draft class will be revealed on April 5 in San Antonio for the men’s NCAA Final Four.
Enshrinement ceremonies took place on September 5 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut and on September 6 at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
There are 189 who are being investigated in different fields, said the Hall.
It is reported by the Associated Press.
