In a significant revelation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the Supreme Court that Canada-based Khalistani terrorists were the masterminds behind the killing of 2020 Shaurya Chakra awardee Comrade Balwinder Singh Sandhu in Punjab.
The NIA’s presentation came in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of Sandhu, who was shot dead at his school in Bhikhiwind, Punjab.
The agency told the Supreme Court that Sukhmeet Pal Singh alias Sukh Bhikariwal, Sunny Toronto (operating in Canada-based Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF)) and Lakhveer Singh alias Rode (nephew of Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala and head of terrorist outfits International Sikh Youth Federation and Khalistan Liberation Force) ordered and commissioned the accused to commit the crime.
The agency told the Supreme Court that Sukhmeet Pal Singh alias Sukh Bhikariwal, Sunny Toronto (operating in Canada-based Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF)) and Lakhveer Singh alias Rode (nephew of Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala and head of terrorist outfits International Sikh Youth Federation and Khalistan Liberation Force) ordered and commissioned the accused to commit the crime.
The NIA in its affidavit said that the conspiracy to kill Balwinder Singh Sandhu was hatched by Sunny Toronto to eliminate anti-Khalistani organizations in India. KLF believes that by targeting anti-Khalistan figures in India they can revive the demand for a separate homeland through violent means in India.
Sunny Toronto and Lakhveer Singh Rode hatched a conspiracy to revive terrorism and contacted Sukhmeet Pal Singh to kill. The aim is to revive terrorism and create unrest in Punjab.
Sunny Toronto has also been in touch with Inderjit Singh, also known as Inder, a resident of Punjab, since 2019. Inderjit, who was passionate about Khalistani beliefs, shared his relationship with overseas members of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF).
These developments related to the separatist Khalistan movement come amid the Canadian government’s support for the group and doubling down on it by accusing Indian government diplomats of being involved in the killings.
